Data Strategy

UBS Global Asset Management (GAM), a business division of Union Bank of Switzerland, is a large-scale asset manager with invested assets in excess of CHF 574 billion.

The firm engaged Parere to perform a strategic review of their enterprise data management technology and operations in order to assess their current state and recommend the most appropriate strategy going forward.

In parallel with the strategic EDM review, Parere were also asked to take interim management responsibility for UBS GAM’s Data IT Group, comprising all project and production support personnel.

Parere assigned a team of highly experienced business and technical specialists to perform the strategic review and assume interim management of the Data IT Group. Specifically, the team was asked to:

• Complete a diagnostic review of current Enterprise Data Management.
• Deliver Findings and Recommendations, setting out a ‘best in class’ Enterprise Data Management Solution in relation to UBS GAM requirements.
• Perform a critical assessment of existing data management IT projects vis-à-vis the ‘best in class’ solution.
• Provide recommendations concerning re-use of existing Data IT resources in delivery of the ‘best in class’ Enterprise Data Management solution.

Parere carried out the diagnostic review, the results providing a clearly articulated ‘best in class’ Enterprise Data Management Solution that additionally identified optimal re-use of existing Data IT resources.

Having assumed the interim management of day-to-day Data IT Operations during the transition period, Parere then assisted in hiring a first class full-time leader for the re-formed Data IT unit; handing over to the new hire and ensuring that momentum of scheduled improvement projects and initiatives was maintained.
